“Outlive Your Life” is essentially the tale of the book of Acts, with stories molded and brought to life in a modern interpretation that only a superb storyteller such as Max Lucado can weave together. On the back cover, Max explains this book of the Bible, Acts: “It’s the story of hillbillies and simple folk, net casters and tax collectors.” The story of how God uses common, everyday people to do His work. Common folks like me and you, who perform everyday tasks, like going to work, changing diapers (one score for me!), and sitting in bleachers. The one thing that the disciples had going for them when Jesus came to them? They were willing. And so the author challenges our willingness through the chapters, examining the miracles and adventures of the church of Jesus in its establishment.
“Outlive Your Life” is an incredible book that will hold your attention, keep you thinking, and drive your thoughts toward your purpose on earth as a Christian. I was personally challenged by several statements:
Amazing what happens when we get out of our shells.
I have been called to be part of a holy community.
Break down barricades that separate God’s children from each other.
“God has shown me that he doesn’t think anyone is unclean or unfit.” (Acts 10:28 CEV)
I highly recommend this book to any Christian, but especially if you think that you are too “small” for God to use. Or it’s too late. Or you have made too many mistakes. And the list goes on.
If you can use anything, Lord, you can use me.
