This week “Thankful Thursday” is about another great Christian who is a faithful example of following God’s plan for her life, without notoriety, fame, or fortune.   Just simply taking a task and doing what God called her to do.

Pauline Harrison is a dear 78 yr. old lady from my hometown, Richwood, WV.   I have known her since I was a very young girl about six years old.

I don’t remember all the details, but one day, I think I was around 8 yrs. old at the time, Pauline saw me in town with my mom and gave me a pamphlet that read at the top, “The Mailbox Club.”  She explained that this is a weekly Bible lesson that you read and complete.  When you mail it back to her, she reviews it and sends you a new one.  I was immediately intrigued.  For a little country girl who was more of a bookworm than anything, this program was ideal for me!  And so my participation in the mailbox club began.  I remember completing this course;  I have certificates to prove it. 🙂  But the point I’m making is:

Pauline is an incredible Christian woman who, in a tiny town in the middle of  the hills of West Virginia, decided to make a difference in those around her.  She administered the local chapter of “The Mailbox Club” and I honestly have no idea how many years she did this.    She has been a faithful and involved member of Liberty Baptist Church for umpteen years.  She is a prayer warrior and loves the Bible above all books.   Only in Heaven will the results of her investment of time and care in this ministry and all the others in which she participated be revealed.

I have been thinking about Pauline and her faithfulness to God in doing His work since the summer when I saw her while visiting my dad’s church.   For the past three years, I have taught ladies’ Bible studies; I think Ms. Pauline just might have known something that I didn’t way back in the mailbox club days.  She  was investing in someone who had a desire to learn God’s Word. She saw a way to share Christ’s love and teach a little “hillbilly” girl  that learning God’s Word is fun and life-changing.

Thank you for your investment, Ms. Harrison.   Psalm 119:2 is dedicated to you:

Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the whole heart!

PS: I just checked and “The Mailbox Club” is still in existence! Here’s the link.
