I’m readily admit that I’m an avid reader and always have been. But of all the books I’ve read this year, this is the only one I’ve asked my husband to read. This is the one about which I couldn’t wait to tell my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Through this book, I was strengthened in my faith in God on a level so desperately needed and desired.
“Choosing to SEE” is the life story of Mary Beth Chapman, wife of the award-winning singer/songwriter, Steven Curtis Chapman. The courtship, marriage, and career of this couple has been one of crazy schedules, traveling, ministering, and loving. Their commitment to God and each other shines as you are lead on a journey through their story of learning to live by faith through trials and tragedy. This book is overflowing with honesty and the reality of living through heartache.
Some of my favorite quotes Mary Beth uses in the book:
You cannot amputate your history from your destiny…My past is something Jesus takes hold of and makes into a destiny. That’s called redemption. – Beth Moore
Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory.- William Barclay
God is always working to make His children aware of a dream that remains alive beneath the rubble of every shattered dream, a new dream that when realized will release a new song, sung with tears, till God wipes them away and we sing with nothing but joy in our hearts.- Larry Crabb
I cannot adequately express the gratitude in my heart for this book. On the Saturday evening that I read the majority of it, the tears were unstoppable and my heart was torn as the Lord spoke to me through the pages. I leave you with this video in hopes that you will grasp the meaning of just some of the words…
